My Story
I grew up in a good home, a pastor's kid, sheltered in the healthiest sense of that word. But no childhood protects you from an untrained set of eyes, and mine got trained early, long before pornography ever entered the picture.
The real trouble started after I got married and began pastoring a growing church. It wasn't my wife's fault. We had a good marriage. But pornography hijacked something in my brain that willpower alone couldn't out-promise. I'd confess, repent, hold out a day or two, and fall again.
"Isn't there something better than this?"
I remember sitting on the front row of my own church one afternoon, dreading going home because I'd just done it again, and that question wouldn't let me go. It's where the six levels in this program started.
Five years ago, two young pastors came to me, struggling with the same thing. We set a time to meet the next day, and that night I prayed, thinking back through everything God had walked me through to break me free. That night, He gave me the six levels. I sat across from those two men the next day and shared it. By God's grace, all three of us are still walking in that freedom today.
Elizabeth has been part of that freedom too. We've been happily married for twenty-four years, and she's been a great part of my recovery process, not someone I hid the fight from, but someone who walked through it with me. That's part of why I can tell you with confidence: this isn't a fight you're meant to win alone.
I've been able to help others because God helped me first. Just last week, I sat across from young men carrying this same struggle, and I could offer them something more than sympathy. Real hope, and a real path. I believe I can help you find it too.
