Video coming soon. The video teaching for Day 34 is still in production. Read the full lesson below, it will be added here as soon as it is ready.
Before we get into any teaching, I need you to hear something first: I'm proud of you.
Not as a formality before the real content. I mean it. If you're here, at Level 5, you have walked through things most men never have the courage to face. You've looked at sin you used to hide. You've said things out loud you used to bury. You've fought on days when fighting felt pointless. And you're still here.
The Lord sees that. Not because you've earned His love (you never could, and you never needed to) but because He delights in a son who gets back up. He delights in a man who keeps walking toward Him instead of away.
"The Lord your God is in your midst... he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing."
That's not just future tense. That's now. Today. Over you. God's not in love with some future version of you. He's not waiting to be happy in you. He is right now, and so am I.
And here's the other thing I need you to hear: I know you're going to make it. I know that because I've seen what God has already done in you through the first four levels. And I know it because of who's doing the work in you. This was never about your strength holding out. It's about His strength meeting you, level after level, day after day.
You are not a project He's frustrated with. You are a son He's proud of.
Welcome to Level 5
I increase joy in the Lord so temptation loses its power.
Where a lot of men are by this point
After Level 4, something starts to shift. The chaos calms down. You start stringing together real stretches of freedom (weeks, sometimes months) where the old pull just doesn't have the grip it used to. If that's you, I want to name that clearly: that's real. That's the Lord doing exactly what He said He would do.
If you're still struggling, ask yourself honestly whether you're watching these lessons or actually doing them. Move harder toward community, and take another run at your boundaries and filters.
Still white-knuckling it? Community changes that.
If freedom still feels out of reach, walking this with other men often makes the difference boundaries and willpower alone can't.
Managing behavior vs. becoming a new man
There's a massive difference between a man who, when offered a cigarette, says "No thanks, I'm trying to quit," and a man who says "No thanks, I'm not a smoker." Same refusal. Same "no." But one comes from a man still fighting an old identity. The other comes from a man who's already someone new, for whom the offer just doesn't apply to him anymore.
A lot of you have spent Levels 1 through 4 learning to say "No thanks, I'm trying to quit," and you've gotten strong at it. Sacrifice, confession, community, accountability: all of that has built real muscle. But underneath, some of you are still secretly identifying as a man who struggles with this, who's white-knuckling his way through, one bad week away from being right back where he started.
Level 5 is where that starts to change. Not because you try harder. Because something deeper gets addressed: your desires themselves.
Up to now, a lot of what we've done has been about resistance: killing what's wrong, cutting off what feeds the sin. That's necessary and good. But resistance alone will wear a man out. You can only white-knuckle a wheel for so long before your arms give out. Level 5 isn't about gripping the wheel tighter. It's about something the Lord wants to do underneath the wheel entirely: in your heart, in your wanting, in what you actually desire.
God has more for you. It's not just "do as I say." It's "want as I want."
There's an old hymn that addresses the Holy Spirit as the "breath of God" (the word "breath" and "spirit" are the same word in the original Greek):
Breathe on me, Breath of God,
Until my heart is pure,
Until with Thee I will one will,
To do, and to endure.
Because the goal was never just a man who doesn't sin. The goal is a man who is so satisfied in God that the sin simply stops being so interesting. That's a different kind of victory. And it's the one we're going after now.
What's ahead
We're going to talk about a further work of cleansing in your heart: not for guilt, but for desire. About an old autopilot in your soul still set to the wrong course. And about joy: real joy, holy joy, the kind that doesn't just resist temptation but out-satisfies it.
You've come a long way. And the Lord isn't done with you yet.
